Kevin Van Impe won the Desselgem GP today, edging out Frederic Amorison (team Landbouwkrediet-Tönissteiner) and Kenny Dehaes (Team Omegapharma-Lotto).
Strong winds blew throughout the race, causing the peloton to divide into various groups. Kevin Van Impe and Marco Velo were part of the leading pack. Another two QUICK STEP atheletes – Frederique Robert and Stijn Devolder – were in the group immediately following the race leaders. Stijn Devolder was forced to give up in the final part of the race after puncturing one of his wheels.
About 20 kilometers far from the finish line, Van Impe sprinted away from the group. The QUICK STEP cyclist was joined by Amorison and Dahaes, who caught up with him 10 kilometers before the arrival. Right under the red triangle, Van Impe put in another attack, and managed to cross the finish line alone, never looking back at Amorison and Dahaes, whom he preceded by a few dozen meters.
