Classics specialist brings in Team MILRAM’s sixth season victory
Dortmund, 12. Mai 2010. Markus Eichler has won the Batavus ProRace (UCI 1.1). The MILRAM Classics specialist won in a heart-stopping finale in a six-man group atrer 213 kilometers with start and finish in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. Bram Schmitz attacked as the finish line approached, Eichler followed him and passed the rider from Team Van Vliet EBH Eishof in the last two meters. Third was Wouter Mol of Vacansoliel. With Markus Eichler’s success, Team MILRAM was able to celebrate its sixth season win for 2010.
„I am totally exhausted but unbelievably happy,“ said Markus Eichler. „I really had to push myself today. I was pretty tired especially on the first 120 kilometers, and I still noticed the 4 Days of Dunkirk in my legs. During the race things got better, though. In the finale I was able to react to the decisive attack and still had enough strength to follow. In the end I won by maybe two meters.“
„That was an unbelievably thrilling finale, in which Markus Eichler did everything right,“ summarized Raoul Liebregts, Team MILRAM’s directeur sportif. „It was a very hard race, with a cold five degrees celsius and lots of rain. Gerald Ciolek was in the first escape group for the first 100 kilometers, which was then caught again. In the last three laps of the circuit course there were constant attacks. Markus Eichler fought his way back at the decisive moment, at the last curve about 50 meters bvefore the finish, and won at the finish line.“
