Michael Mørkøv And Alex Rasmussen Won In Berlin

Tuesday night, Team Saxo Bank’s world champions swept all competition aside by winning the six-day race in Berlin after an incredibly exciting finale with Alex Rasmussen and Michael Mørkøv in peak shape.

One lap behind and down 35 points, the victory seemed unattainable before tonight’s race but Team Saxo Bank’s track specialists demonstrated a combination of convincing tactical skills and rather superior strength as the peloton took on the final 30 laps of the race:

“The starting point was no good to say the least, but obviously we wanted to do anything possible to get to the top step of the podium. At first, we tried to gain a few points but Bartko / Kluge were immediately on our wheel so we wanted to postpone the attack, “says a delighted Michael Mørkøv after the couple’s fifth six-day victory and continues:

“In the beginning of the hunt, we wanted to wait for the Dutch to open and luckily they did so the Germans had to close the gap and we could stay on their wheel. Then we knew it was the right moment to attack so we gave it our best shot which proved to be enough to gain a lap on the Germans in front of their home crowd of 13,000 people who suddenly became very quiet. The last 27 laps were pure torture where we were on the defense. But we managed to keep the peloton in one group and we are extremely proud of this victory, “concludes a happy Michael Mørkøv.

The victory surely proves that Alex Rasmussen and Michael Mørkøv are favorites to win the six-day race on home ground in Ballerup Super Arena, Copenhagen starting Thursday night.
The race will be updated live here on the website from Saturday to Tuesday night’s grand finale where we hope to witness another Team Saxo Bank victory.
