Name Change At Team Columbia-HTC

In another apparent team name change, the team known as Columbia-HTC during the 2009 season, will now be called Team HTC-Columbia during the 2010 season. It was announced on Friday by High Road Sports, Bob Stapleton, the teams owner.

The clothing company Columbia Sportswear is now taking a secondary position behind HTC, which is a cell phone manufacturer.

The team will continue with their white, yellow, and black kit design.

In 2009, Team HTC – Columbia won more races than any other team in professional cycling, with the men tallying 86 wins including 17 Grand Tour stage wins. And the women’s team achieved 46 wins including three rounds of the UCI World Cup Series and the overall series, stage wins in Tour de l’Aude, Giro d’Italia, Holland Ladies Tour, the overall General Classification in Redlands and the overall win in the Route de France.

The team, which includes 39 male and female athletes from 18 different countries, began racing on January 6th with the Australian and New Zealand National Championships. A team training camp starts today on the Spanish island Mallorca.

HTC, a cell phone manufacturer, joined Columbia Sportswear as a title sponsor on June 29, 2009. The team will wear a variation of the yellow, white and black kit that it unveiled at the 2009 Tour de France.
