BERLIN – There will be no professional cycling team based in Germany for the 2011 season after Milram announced Tuesday they had failed to find a new main sponsor.
“We have not found a new main sponsor,” team manager Gerry van Gerwen, head of Germany’s only remaining cycling team, told SID, an AFP subsidiary.
“I could not therefore provide the UCI with the required contracts for sponsors, drivers and staff.”
Milram will return their ProTour license for the 2011 season to the UCI, world cycling’s governing body, and will cease to exist next year.
Having competed on the professional circuit since 2006, Team Milram’s employees are under contract until December 31 2010 and the team’s last race will be the Tour of Lombardy in Italy on October 16.
