I’ve had the opportunity to try out a pair of Salice sunglasses for the past few weeks. I’ve never been all that fond of wearing sunglasses, and generally skip them on all but the brightest days. I wear soft contact lenses with UV protection, and I’ve never been a big fan of the muted color, or artificially colored world you get hiding behind shades. Fortunately I’ve been spending more time each week out on my bike commuting to Bicycle.Net’s Beverly Hills editorial offices or taking afternoon rides down Ballona Creek to the Pacifc Ocean. Unfortunately, I’ve discovered the discomfort of insects flying into my eyes one too many times. It became altogether clear, that as annoying as I found sunglasses, I was gonna need windshields.
Too my surprise and pleasure, I’ve found the Salice frames easy to wear, easy to adjust to, and very comfortable. I’m wearing a stylish pair of flexible top only white frames, with a single piece lens that wraps from temple to temple. The lens shape and fit creates a very comfortable air flow over my face. Several other pairs of glasses I’ve sampled, left gaps below the eyebrow or around the bridge of the nose and channeled air flow directly across the surface of my contacts drying them out. The Salice lenses create a clean barrier from brow to cheekbone, and I’ve not had dry eyes a single day that I’ve worn them. Because the glasses are designed with framing only along the top, there is no framing blocking your sight lines along the bottoms and side of the lenses. When commuting in traffic and taking a quick backwards peek, you’ve got a clear view with no obstructions..
I’ve also be impressed the the lens clarity and performance. Many of the lenses I’ve worn, tend to blend everything you see down to a uniform, almost two dimensional greige, and wash away much of your visual acuity. I’ve found my vision with these lens remains sharp and crisp, which is pretty critical tying to judge pavement conditions 30-40 yards out while rolling at speed on a bike. I found that the photo adjustment of the lenses between dark and light is quick and responsive so that you don’t find yourself rolling into a black hole as you move from sunlight to shade when rolling under a bridge, nor blinded as you climb back out into the sun. I did try the polarized version of the glasses, but found that they gave a very disorienting twist and shimmer to everything I looked at while moving.
All in all, the glasses look good and I see better. I now I can not see getting on the bike without wearing them.

Manufacture Spec Info:
Thanks to new and advanced technologies we have been able unify and apply more than one treatment into one lens, in order to create very high performance lenses for sports sunglasses and satisfy the most demanding customers with a lens that could have more than one function.
This lens includes 3 Lenses in one: mirror, hydrophobic and antireflective on the internal surface of the lens. A list of technical characteristics about this performance lens is below:
RW
The treatment in the mirror surface reduces the reflective light and increases the filtering power of the lens. This treatment is both stylish and offers more protection from strong light.
Anti-reflective
Solar anti-reflective treatment is applied on the inside to aid visibility through increased clarity, for a higher level of comfort. With this lens, reflection from the inside is reduced to avoid disturbance generated by solar reflection.
Hydrophobic
This innovation was drawn from ophthalmic treatments, allowing the lens to be smooth like silk on the surface and repel finger marks, dirt and water. This treatment is very beneficial especially for training and translates into perfect vision.
