German cyclist Stefan Schumacher will be joining the Italian Miche Team in late August, when his two-year suspension for doping ends, Schumacher reported on Monday.
Schumacher, 29, has signed a contract binding him to the end of the season with Miche Team, a Continental level team, the equivalent of the 3rd Division in cycling.
The contract also provides an option for an additional year.
“I am really pleased to still be able to participate in cycling with the jersey of team Miche, for a few races this season,” said Schumacher, who will be at the Tour of Venice August 28, the same day as the end of his suspension.
Beyond the results, the most important for Schumacher will be “getting back into the rhythm of competition.”
The period of two years without competition was long, but I’ve been training seriously. Now I’m eager to see how it will work out, “added Schumacher, who has received other proposals.
The former Gerolsteiner rider training (2006-08) had been caught in October 2008 by controls carried out during the Tour de France that year.
He had tested positive for EPO Cera, during tests before the departure and during a day of rest, according to the French Agency for the Fight against Doping. He also tested positive for the same product at the Beijing Olympics.
