In January 2011 cycling fans will have a chance to see former Olympic rower-turned-cyclist Cameron Wurf make his first appearance at the 2011 Santos Tour Down Under.
Santos Tour Down Under Race Director Mike Turtur today announced that the 27-year-old Tasmanian will be making his debut at the 2011 Santos Tour Down Under with his team Liquigas Cannondale.
“It’s great to see another new face debuting at the race. Wurf’s remarkable transition from professional rowing to professional cycling only serves to underscore his immense sporting talent,” says Mike Turtur.
“Wurf has a bright future ahead of him in professional cycling, and we expect him to put in a strong performance at the race next year.”
Currently based in Monaco, Wurf took up professional cycling three years ago, following a wrist injury which forced him to continue his fitness training on the bike.
Joining him in Adelaide will be Kristjan Koren and Fabio Sabatini who rode for Liquigas at the 2010 Santos Tour Down Under.
Team manager, Dario Mariuzzo (ITA), will be leading the Liquigas Cannondale team with the following riders:
Cameron Wurf (AUS)
Davide Cimolai (ITA)
Alan Marangoni (ITA)
Elia Viviani (ITA)
Kristjan Koren (SVN)
Simone Ponzi (ITA)
Fabio Sabatini (ITA)
