Fabian Wegmann leads German ProTour team in “Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt“

Dortmund, 28. April 2010. Led by Fabian Wegmann, Team MILRAM accepts the challenge of defending its title at the traditional May 1 race in Frankfurt (1.HC). The allrounder will be supported on the 202 kilometer-long „Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt“ by a promising mixture of allrounders and Classics specialists. Christian Henn, Team MILRAM Directeur Sportif, will look to defend the title with strong performances from Wim de Vocht, Christian Knees, Roy Sentjens, Niki Terpstra, Paul Voß, Peter Wrolich and Linus Gerdemann.

„We must make the race very difficult,“ said Christian Henn. „Last year we had a nearly perfect race day, in which we were able to accomplish everything we wanted to. We need another one like that this year, in order to leave our strong rivals behind us.“

With Fabian Wegmann, the German ProTour team will have the defending champion at the head of its squad. Wegmann won the final sprint and brought in Team MILRAM’s first big season victory of 2009. He has now come back after a five-week pause due to a broken collarbone with good performances in the Ardennes Classics. „Fabian’s performance level is definitely improving, he is getting step by step better. That makes us hopeful for May 1,“ said Christian Henn.

„Winning the race last year was a dream for me,“ said Fabian Wegmann, looking back. „This year it will be more difficult for us, since because of the changed course, it is flat at the end longer than last year. We must ride attentively and force an early decision.“

The traditional race on May 1 changes its name this year for the second time in a row. As in last year, the race starts in Eschborn, from where the riders will ride through the challenging Taunus into the middle of Frankfurt. There the winner will be found after a total of seven ranked climbs, four sprints and about 200 kilometers.

The results of the last years let Team MILRAM hope for a successful race. In addition to defending champion Wegmann, who finished fourth for Team Gerolsteiner in 2008, the team also has Christian Knees, who finished in the top five in 2008 (third) and 2009 (fifth).
