San Luis Obispo, CA – 23rd May 2010 – HTC-Columbia’s Ina-Yoko Teutenberg ended the Tour de l’Aude on a high, winning the final stage of the French stage race. It was her third stage victory in this year’s race, taking her career total of victories in the race to an amazing 21.
Ina finished second on Saturday but bounced back to beat Marianne Vos in the sprint on Sunday. Britain’s Emma Pooley was the overall race winner. Linda Melanie Villumsen was the best overall finisher for HTC- Columbia in 14th place after Adrie Visser led the race for several days early on.
“It’s a great way to end a stage race,” Ina said.
“The Tour de l’Aude is a tough race and so we were all pretty tired after nine days racing but the girls did a great job in controlling the attacks. Vos went away on the descent but we let her go and then the girls pulled her back and I won the sprint.”
“I’m the oldest rider in the race but that’s one of the challenges of racing for me. It’s an honour to have won 21 stage here. I’ve actually lost count of the number of my career wins but it’s in three figures for sure.”
The HTC-Columbia team attended a celebratory banquet after the French stage race and then will travel home on Monday.
Teutenberg’s next major race is the Liberty Classic race in Philadelphia on June 6.
