So, apparently my computer enjoys coffee as much as I do…. It drank an entire french press, got out of control, threw some sparks, hissed and whistled like a worn out circus ride, then had a melt down….. much like what happens to me when I drink an entire french press! So that is my excuse for being lame and not getting a blog done!
All this coffee drinking happened whilst on the road, which is where I have been, for the most part, since Tour de Nez at the end of June. Since then I have been sick, driven a Van 2000 miles with a bunch of other itinerant blokes, acting like 5 year olds, spent 12 hours straight in said Van at one point…. yep, went insane…. oh and we did some bike races. We started local at Manhattan Beach, Tim Farnham got in the break, and ran 6th. Nice work! We loaded up the bus and moved to Beverly, Hills that is, swimming pools and movies stars…just kidding. We actually headed up to San Rafael Twilight where I managed 5th place, hung out in Santa Rosa for a few days, drove to Boise, Idaho, did a crit, everyone rode well, I ran 11th and we were all in the money, which helps, because then we can buy food! Drove to Bend, Oregon, stayed at the best host house in the world (Thanks Shultz family), did that Cascade bike race, felt like crap every day, drove 16 hours straight back to San Diego (It was all downhill anyway!), funnily enough, still felt like crap. Slept in my own bed for 3 nights, boarded a plane for Chicago, raced Elk Grove, managed to run 7th in the road race, but couldn’t ride out of a wet paper bag after that. Flew back to San Diego, slept….slept some more, felt roughly human, did a good block of training, drove to LA, did Brentwood GP, came 4th, felt good, went home, had two easy days…. and that brings us to today, where I am sitting at a cafe drinking coffee….and keeping the cup at a good distance from the computer! It’s a Tuesday…I think… In August….I think…. I am putting the pieces together for the next trip, which includes US Pro Crit, Tour of Utah, Chris Thater in Binghamton, Atlanta 100k, and TX Tough…. That’ll take me out ’til mid September, at which stage I will probably be a walking corpse and will take a bit of time off the bike. But not too much, I hear there is a race in New Zealand in November and then I will head back to see the family in Australia and take a good rest in the Aussie sunshine….and I’ll trade my coffee for a few cold beers!
Cheers,
Cody
