SYDNEY – American sprinter Tyler Farrar will ride in Australia’s Tour Down Under in January, organizers said on Wednesday.
Farrar, who won two stages in this year’s Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana, joins compatriot Lance Armstrong as the first riders confirmed to
compete in the January 16-23 Tour in South Australia.
It will be seven-time Tour de France winner Armstrong’s final professional race outside the United States.
Tour director Mike Turtur said Farrar will compete for the Garmin-Transitions team, which will officially become Team Garmin-Cervelo in
next year.
“It’s great for our race to have a cyclist of Farrar’s caliber competing here in January,” Turtur said.
“I believe he could be the next big threat to international sprinters.”
