MILRAM captain Gerdemann in promising position as second overall
Dortmund, 11. March 2010. MILRAM’s Fabian Wegmann and Johannes Fröhlinger had to abandon on the third stage of Tirreno-Adriatico (March 10-16 / UCI HIS). Wegmann was involved in a crash eight kilometers before the finish and had to leave the race with a suspected broken collarbone. Teammate Johannes Fröhlinger had to give in to the intestinal infection which has been plaguing him for days.
Linus Gerdemann had to give up the blue leader’s jersey. The MILRAM captain reached the mass sprint finish after 159 kilometers from San Miniato to Monsummano with the peloton. He goes into the challenging weekend stages in a promising position, only four seconds behind the new leader Daniele Bennati. The Italian from Team Liquigas-Doimo won the third stage in a mass sprint ahead of his countryman Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre-Farnese Vini) and Austrian Bernhard Eisel (HTC-Columbia).
„That was a very bitter day for us,“ said Christian Henn, MILRAM’s Directeur Sportif. „In Fabian Wegmann and Johannes Fröhlinger we have lost two very important riders. The next few days would have been something especially for Fabian. Johannes has suffered from his intestinal infection for several days now and today it was just too much. I hope they both get well again soon.“
