Spaniard Haimar Zubeldia will not be at the Tour de France (July 3-25 ) with the RadioShack team of Lance Armstrong, due to a fracture of the radius his team announced Friday.
The rider had fallen on the first stage of the Dauphine, June 7, and had fractured the radius but remained hopeful of his chances of participating in the Tour de France.
Zubeldia had to resign himself to the idea abandoning the Tour which was his main goal of the season, because there was not “enough time to recover from the fracture and train with the intensity needed.”
“These are difficult times for a rider who had prepared for his favorite race since the beginning of the season and sees that it may end due to a fall” Zubeldia said in a statement.
On the chances of his RadioShack team at the Tour, the Spaniard believes that RadioShack is “one of the best teams and it will fight to win”
Lance Armstrong is “getting better day by day.
