Australia 12th Country on Tour de France Win List
Cadel Evans’s historic victory on the Tour de France Sunday allowed Australia to become only the 12th nation to be represented on the race’s victory list.
BMC team leader Evans, a runner-up in 2007 and 2008, ended a five-year Spanish reign on the race when he secured the yellow jersey after the 21st and final stage on the Champs Elysees.
He is also only the third non-European to win the race after Americans Greg LeMond and Lance Armstrong.
From 98 editions the countries to have won the race are:
36: France
18: Belgium
13: Spain
10: United States
9: Italy
4: Luxembourg
2: Netherlands, Switzerland
1: Germany, Australia, Denmark, Ireland
