On the strength of his victory Tuesday at Tirreno-Adriatico, Cadel Evans of the BMC Racing Team stands atop the latest WorldTour rankings.
Focus Still On The Tour
Evans and Paris-Nice winner Tony Martin (HTC-Highroad) each have 108 points. Evans said the No. 1 ranking comes as a bit of a surprise, though he remains focused on the Tour de France. “With the low key start to my season, I would not have predicted this, but I might have hoped for it,” the former world champion said. “It’s still early, though. Let’s have a look at the rankings again in August or September.” BMC Racing Team General Manager/President Jim Ochowicz said Tirreno-Adriatico showed the capabilities of both Evans and the team. “To be victorious this week gives us a chance to concentrate on the next phase of the calendar, which is the classics, and continue to stay on track with our objectives and strategy to get there.”
