Giro Attracts 23 Teams In 2011

Twenty-three teams, each with nine riders, will take part in the May 7-29 Tour of Italy, Giro organizers announced Monday.

A UCI nod to increasing the number of riders to more than 200 was obtained, and the five invited teams joining the 18 first division outfits are Italian quartet Acqua and Sapone, Androni, Colnago and Farnese, and Spanish team Geox.

Spain: Euskaltel, Geox, Movistar
Belgium: Omega Pharma, Quick Step
Netherlands: Rabobank, Vacansoleil
Denmark: Saxo Bank
France: AG2R La Mondiale
Britain: Sky
Kazakhstan: Astana
Luxembourg: Leopard
Russia: Katusha
