Hagen Roars To Victory In Freystadt

Team Sky got their Bayern-Rundfahrt campaign off to the perfect start with Edvald Boasson Hagen romping to victory in Freystadt.

The squad produced a textbook display during the 223.2km opening stage from Pfarrkirchen and helped bring a five-man breakaway back before leading Boasson Hagen out for his first win of the season.

The Norwegian was set clear inside the final 200 metres and produced one of his devastating late kicks which proved too fast for Andre Schulze (CCC Polsat–Polkowice) and Heinrich Haussler (Garmin-Cervelo).

The result saw him move top of the general classification and also claim the sprint and young rider’s jerseys in the process.

After the stage, Sports Director Servais Knaven was full of praise for his team’s dominant display, and said: “It was a great team performance. We have a really strong squad here and everyone is determined to work for one another and put on a good show.

“Edvald is clearly on a good level again after his terrible crash at Scheldeprijs, and I’m always surprised how quickly he recovers from injury. He’s a real natural and I’m really pleased for him.

“He got 10 bonus seconds for the win, which is always good, and he is now four seconds ahead of Schulze.”
