Jonathan Cantwell Ready For Pro Tour Challenge With Team Saxo Bank

Jonathan Cantwell is a new member of the Team Saxo Bank squad and with 85 wins in the past four seasons in Asia, Australia and North America, the Aussie sprinter is looking forward to carrying on that success to Europe and the protour. Jonathan has been racing for approximately 15 years now and raced in Europe during the years 2000-2003 with the Australian National team and competed in the world championships in Plouy, France. In 2004 and 2005, he raced for a U26 team, Squadra Bibanese and accomplished 35 top 10 results in those two seasons. He made a transition to America in 2007 and has been racing there for the past four seasons with Jittery Joe’s Pro Cycling Team and then Fly V Australia Pro Cycling Team.

“I live on the Gold Coast Australia with my wife Alana and our new born son, Jayce. My favorite thing to do is to ride my bike and do the fast sprints but when I park the bike in the garage I rewind by playing golf and hanging at the beach. Professionally, it’s going to be a very exciting year for me. Doing the protour races will be a great step up for me and it’s going to be a perfect challenge and a natural development in my career. According to plan, I start racing on home soil with the Tour Down Under in January and then straight away head to Europe for Mallorca Challenge and Haut Var. After that I race 3 Driedaages West Flanders and Tour of Taiwan,” says 29-year-old Jonathan.

Aware of his obvious sprinting skills, he knows his role in on the team in 2012:

“I hope to have a few opportunities to win some races throughout the season but I’m just as much looking forward to helping Lucas and JJ Haedo in the sprints. It would also be great to get the chance to ride one of the grand tours like the Giro d’ Italia,” concludes the Aussie sprinter.
