Today, Saxo Bank-SunGard’s line-up for the Belgian classics took part in the warm-up race, Scheldeprijs before taking Paris-Roubaix on Sunday. Five escapees dominated the finale but 20 kilometers from the finish line, the field was complete and Saxo Bank-SunGard assembled in the front of the pack to guard and protect the Argentinean sprinter, Juan Jose Haedo before the sprint.
And the pace was so incredibly high that several riders had to give up their position in the field creating gaps quite impossible to close again. On the final hundred meters, the finale was marred by a terrible crash and Saxo Bank-SunGard’s Juan Jose Haedo was forced to slow down in order to avoid going down.
The whole team worked brilliantly in order to put me in a good position for the sprint and that makes it even more sad not to be able to fulfill the hard work because of a crash on the finish line. But the form is good and I truly appreciate the support from the teammates and I only wish I can repay their trust with a good result soon, said Saxo Bank-SunGard sprinter, Juan Jose Haedo.
Mark Cavendish (HTC-High Road) won the race.
