Saxo Bank-SunGard is ready with the final line-up for the challenges in this year’s edition of Giro d’Italia where the Danish squad is going for the overall triumph. The Italian stage race is launched with a team time trial Saturday 7th of May and ends three weeks later in Milan with an individual time trial over 32 kilometers.

Saxo Bank-SunGard’s line-up is Alberto Contador, Kasper Klostergaard, Jesus Hernandez, Daniel Navarro, Michael Mørkøv, Matteo Tosatto, Laurent Didier, Richie Porte and Volodymir Gustov.

“We enter the Giro with a very strong and motivated squad. The final selection has not been easy as we have many strong cards on our hands but one thing is certain – this line-up is top tuned and highly motivated to win and they are strong enough to pull it off. We are well-prepared, we want to make a difference in the race and the race will undoubtedly be a thrill to witness and I’m looking forward to being a part of it,” said Saxo Bank-SunGard team owner, Bjarne Riis.

Saxo Bank-SunGard Dane, Michael Mørkøv is also looking forward to the Italian stage race:

“This is a dream come true for me. It’s one thing to do one of the major tours but to be in the line-up of guys to support a rider like Alberto (Contador) is something else. My main role in the race is to protect and to set a high pace on the flat stretches but I’m also here to support the team in the team time trial where we have a good chance to finish on the top step of the podium,” said Saxo Bank-SunGard’s Michael Mørkøv.

Saxo Bank-SunGard overall favorite, Alberto Contador is feeling confident with the line-up:

“I know deciding the Giro d’Italia line-up has been a difficult task because there were many riders motivated and eager to go. We have a strong line-up but we also know that we will find very strong rivals on the start line whose indisputable objective is to achieve the overall victory of the Giro. However, I’m confident we will do a good job and we will be fighting for the win.”
