UCI Says Chile’s Arriagada Failed Doping Test
GENEVA, April 4, 2011 – Chile’s top cyclist Marco Arriagada, his
compatriot Jose Medina Andrade as well as Argentina’s Alfredo Lucero have
tested positive for doping, world cycling body UCI said Monday.
The presence of banned stanozolol metabolites has showed up in their urine
samples taken during the 2011 Vuelta Ciclista de Chile, the International
Cycling Union said in a statement.
The three riders “have the right to request and attend the analysis of
their B samples,” said the UCI, adding that it was unable to provide further
details on the case.
Arriagada won three of the 10 stages on the last edition of the Tour of
Chile, a race he has won three times, and is a four-time national time trial
champion.
