There are new leaders of the men’s and women’s standings on the United States International Cyclo-cross Calendar (USICX) standings. On Saturday, the riders contested the Colorado Cross Classic in Boulder, Colo. and the Beacon Cross in Bridgton, N.J. The HPCX in Jamesburg, N.J. and the Victory Circle Graphix Boulder Cup in Boulder took center stage on Sunday.
MEN
The new leader of the USICX men’s standings is Ryan Trebon (Bend, Ore./LTS-Felt). Trebon collected 100 points in the past week on the strength of winning Saturday’s Colorado Cross Classic and placing second in Sunday’s Boulder Cup. Trebon’s climb from third place into first slides Justin Lindine (New Salem, Mass./Bikereg.com-Joe’s Garage) into second and Jeremy Powers (Easthampton, Mass./Team Rapha-Focus) into third. Ben Berden (BEL/Ops Ale-Clement), who edged Trebon on Sunday by two seconds and finished fourth on Saturday, added 85 points to overtake Ian Field (GBR/Hargroves) for fourth place. Field rounds out the top five with a 36-point edge over Bart Wellens (BEL/Telenet Fidea Cycling Team).
Elsewhere on the USICX, Lukas Winterberg (SUI/Philadelphia Cyclo-cross School) won HPCX on Sunday after placing second to Craig Richey (CAN/CyclocrossRacing.com p/b Blue) in Saturday’s Beacon Cross.
WOMEN
Laura van Gilder (Cresco, Pa./C3 p/b Mellow Mushroom) placed second in each of the two races in New Jersey last week to register 80 points and move into the lead of the USICX women’s standings with 468 points. Helen Wyman (GBR/Kona Factory) and Katerina Nash (CZE/Luna Pro Team) each slid down one into second and third places with 420 points and 400 points, respectively. Caroline Mani (FRA/CC Etupes Doubes Pay) earned 70 points to move into fourth place, nudging Andrea Smith (Somerville, Mass./LadiesFirst Racing) into fifth place.
Nicole Thiemann (Philadelphia, Pa./Team CF) earned 120 points by winning the Beacon Cross on Saturday and HPCX on Sunday to catapult her into sixth place with 287 points. Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Rabobank) also earned 120 points by winning the Colorado Cross Classic on Saturday and the Boulder Cup on Sunday to leap from 22nd to seventh with 220 points.
