Wiggins and Froome Make British Team For Copenhagen

LONDON, Sept 16, 2011 – Team Sky duo Chris Froome and Bradley Wiggins were named Friday in the British team for next month’s road cycling World Championships in Copenhagen.

Froome and Wiggins’ participation comes after the pair finished second and third at the Tour of Spain last weekend, the first time two British cyclists have secured podium finishes at the end of a Grand Tour.

The Sky duo are part of an eight-strong team which includes Tour de France
green jersey winner Mark Cavendish, Steve Cummings, Jeremy Hunt, David Millar,
Ian Stannard and Geraint Thomas.

Millar and Wiggins are also to compete in the men’s time-trial.

Froome meanwhile has signed a new three-year contract with Sky following
his heroics in Spain.

“Team Sky has made a tremendous impact on professional cycling in a very
short space of time,” Froome said.

“I am very much looking forward to going into future events with the
current support structure behind me.”
