It was one of those moments when your stomach drops and your world starts to spin around you. Yep, I found a crack in my 18 month old Giro helmet. It had never been crashed, but upon closer inspection Giro had determined that I had accidentally bumped against something (top tube or car door maybe). Since it was out of warranty I firmly believed that I was going to have to shell (pun intended) out my hard earned money for another Giro helmet.
I am a life long Giro helmet fan. I had one of those early models that was nothing but the foam and Lycra cover. Giro helmets just fit my head better than the others. I have many helmets in my arsenal but always find myself putting the Giro on my head.
It was at this point that Giro sent my helmet back to me and told me it was not covered by warranty. Being the squeaky wheel that I am I went straight to FaceBook to vent. And vent I did, and here is what I posted – “I am pissed at Giro. I have an Ionos helmet that is only 18 months old that got a crack in the back of it. They claim I dropped or crashed it, which I did not do either. Anyone else have this problem”?
Well I am hear to say that not only was I wrong because I probably did accidentally hit it on something, DRUM ROLL PLEASE…….
HELEN’S CYCLES in Santa Monica and GIRO took care of me. They replaced my helmet and I am now styling the brand new Aeon helmet (product review coming soon). This helmet rocks, but so does Helen’s Cycles.
So do me a favor, when you are in Los Angeles and need anything bicycle related go to Helen’s. And make sure to consider Giro when shopping for a new helmet.

Hi Jonathan!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s Rosalie and John from CLM. We just wanted to comment on your pics. After we both picked ourselves up off the floor, suffering from bouts of laughter, this is what we’ve decided.
Pic. #1: The only thing missing is your booking number.
Pic. #2: We’re positive that were the picture to be enlarged, you would most certainly be wearing a “One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest” wrist band.
Hope life is treating you well.
