Gatorade is proud to be fuelling Team Sky as its Official Nutrition Partner for the third successive year. In 2012, Team Sky will use products from the G Series Pro range, launched to the UK in November, as well as Gatorlyte products. Specific fuelling products have been developed in collaboration with Team Sky’s Head of Nutrition, Nigel Mitchell.
Additionally, for 2012, Team Sky’s performance and nutrition teams will work closely with leading sports nutrition scientist Asker Jeukendrup, who heads up the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI).
To welcome Team Sky’s riders, Gatorade provided each member with a specially commissioned bike thermos, to allow transportation of hot drinks during winter training. At the formal team announcement (January 4th) in the UK, riders Luke Rowe, Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins were the first riders to receive their personalised bottle, complete with name and flag embossed (see photos).
Gatorade’s UK Marketing Director Hayley Stringfellow said: “We are excited for the year ahead with Team Sky and to be working more closely with the riders and coaches to help them achieve their goals in 2012 and beyond.”
Team Sky’s Team Principal, Dave Brailsford, said:“Gatorade has played a role in our success over the past two years. Having seen the developments they have made to their range, and support services which are on offer to the team, we know they will help us go from strength to strength in the coming season.”
In addition to fuelling Team Sky in 2012, Gatorade is also a performance partner to British Cycling, World Champion Triathletes Alistair (Individual and Team) and Jonathan (Team) Brownlee, the teams of the Aviva Premiership (Rugby) and more.
