Sutherland Remains in Yellow At 2012 Tour de Beauce

UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team’s Rory Sutherland Remains in Yellow Heading into the Final Stage of the 2012 Tour de Beauce

Quebec City, Quebec – The UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team’s Rory Sutherland (AUS) retained his position as the overall leader in the 2012 Tour de Beauce following his 10th place finish earlier today, Saturday, June 16, in Stage 5 of Canada’s biggest race. Sutherland was able to grab the overall lead yesterday after his second place finish in the Individual Time Trial (ITT). Today’s Stage 5 victory belonged to Team Type 1-Sanofi’s Vegard Stake Laengen, who was able to outpace two of his eight breakaway companions who represented Team Raleigh, Russell Hampton (who finished second) and Liam Holohan (who took third).

Sutherland relied on solid teamwork to maintain the top position in the general classification on the eve of the race’s final stage, tomorrow’s Stage 6 circuit race in Saint-Georges.

“The boys did a great job in Beauce today, controlling the race well and enabling us to keep the yellow jersey,” commented Sutherland. “The teamwork displayed and the hard work put in by everyone here is impressive. It puts us in a similar position for tomorrow’s final stage in Saint Georges.”

Team Director, Hendrik Redant, mentioned the Team was able to do the job they set out to do today despite running into a few mechanical problems early in the race. In an interview with Canadian Cycling Magazine Redant stated that tomorrow’s stage in Saint-Georges will be somewhat more challenging than today because there are more climbs, but he is confident and likes the Team’s chances to successfully defend the yellow jersey.
