China WorldTour Race Called Off For The Second Time

UCI World Tour

BEIJING, Feb 18, 2013 (AFP) – A Chinese cycle race added to the World Tour
last year only to be postponed seven months later has been cancelled again
this season, the International Cycling Union (UCI) announced.

The inaugural Tour of Hangzhou was included on the cycling calendar last
February and was due to be held in October, but in August the UCI postponed it
for a year.

At a meeting last week the organisation announced the event had been
“frozen” as “basic conditions for organising a race at UCI World Tour level
would not be met in the short term”. It gave no further details of the reasons
for the move.

The 2013 Tour of Beijing was moved forward from October 16-20 to 11-15 “in
order to ensure the consistency of the calendar”, the UCI said on a press
release posted on its website.

The Beijing race will be final event of the World Tour.
