Beverly Hills – A mass start on Rodeo Drive, a podium with the original Giro d’Italia trophy and Lamborghinis leading the way for hundreds of avid cyclists: this is Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia Beverly Hills, the upcoming, exciting luxury edition of the series.
The inaugural event, taking place on Sunday, November 3 – will present stunning two courses (48 and 90 miles), passing through beauty and history, especially around the Topanga Canyon (a magnet in the ‘60s for musicians of the caliber of Neil Young, and even rumored to inspire Jim Morrison’s “Roadhouse Blues”). The routes will go through favorite spots on the picturesque cliffs of Santa Monica Mountains. Abundant sights and panoramic views of the ocean are going to leave memorable impressions, and during the descent down Kanan Road riders will travel through two of the Kanan tunnels. Noteworthy also is the Aid Station at Rocky Oaks Park, a Wildlife Habitat area. Mulholland Highway will offer a fantastic twisting descent that will disclose the best of the Santa Monica Mountains: amazing views, wonderful houses, and several historic landmarks, like the Peter Strauss Ranch. This is just a warm up for the fun to come: the 5.3 mile climb up Piuma Road and the competition for Gran Premio della Montagna (GPM), or King/Queen of the Mountain. The GPM presented by Speedplay will provide awards for both male and female participants in several age group categories. Back to Beverly Canon Gardens, riders will then experience a superb meal and the Expo, featuring many beloved Italian brands.
