Michael Rogers joined Team Saxo-Tinkoff from January 1st 2013. The Australian rider has won the time trial World Championships three times along with overall stage race victories in Route de Sud, Tour of California, Deutschland Tour, Tour of Belgium, Vuelta a Andalucia and Bayern Rundfarht. His obvious TT-skills combined with the ability to climb makes him a highly desired rider at any team.
Where are you from?
“I’m originally from Canberra, Australia. Since 1996, I’ve based the majority of my year in Europe and I now live in Mendrisio, Switzerland. I’m married to Alessia and have three children, Sofia, Matilde & Emily.”
How has the change of teams been so far?
“The change has been very positive. I always enjoy the new challenges of moving to a new team. I think that I’ll now be granted a few more opportunities on my own in shorter stages races. However, I believe that there is no perfect formula to go about winning races as cycling is a 360-degree game of chess.”
What are your main goals this season?
“My main goal will be riding the Tour de France supporting Alberto in our quest for the win. There’s a long way of training of racing ahead of us and for some, the big objective is the Tour. That doesn’t mean I have no ambitions of my own in other races. My next race will be Tirreno-Adriatico. My goals are again aligned with helping out the team. After a minor injury during the winter, I’m a little behind condition wise compared to previous years. But hopefully the condition will be perfect come July,” Rogers concludes.
