Theo Bos starts the Tour de Langkawi with a victory. It’s his second win this early season and the seventh of the Blanco Pro Cycling Team. His powerful acceleration was too much for the peloton after the 163 kilometres stage. Brian Coquard (Europcar) finished second and Andrea Guardini (Astana) completed the podium. Bos earned the leader’s jersey and point’s jersey. Tomorrow is a short stage with another sprint opportunity for Blanco.
“It was a hard stage with very high temperatures. Luckily, I have had no problem with the jetlag. The guys Jetse Bol, Tom Leezer, Marc Goos and Jos van Emden helped out really well. We are here to get our sprint train on track. Graeme Brown brings so much experience, and was really strong in the last two kilometres. He caused a gap in the last 500 metres, and so I went early for a long sprint,” said Theo Bos
“There was an early breakaway with three guys. Together with Astana and Vini Fantini we controlled the race. The gap was closed with seven kilometres to go. The guys worked really well together to bring Theo in a good position. Graeme Brown was the perfect lead-out for Theo. Racing on the left side of the road is something else though” tells a smiling sports director Jeroen Blijlevens.
